The headphone market tends to stagnate.
Apple has dominated the wireless earbuds market for many years now. It's a reality we're getting used to, but while many consumers already have them, sales tend to stagnate. This is, at least, the conclusion of a report published by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP), which focuses on the American market.
AirPods Pro 3 on the way
In detail, experts note that approximately 44% of iPhone owners in the United States now report owning Bluetooth headphones, up from 41% a year ago. Of this total, 59% use AirPods, a 2-point increase from last year and in line with the level observed in 2023. This suggests that 26% of those who own an iPhone also have AirPods at Uncle Sam's.
These figures are both satisfying for the Cupertino company, but also a little disappointing. We are seeing a stagnation in sales of these wireless earbuds in its core market. This is logical, given that the AirPods Pro 2 were released in September 2022.
Therefore, and as our colleagues at MacRumors rightly mention , the Apple brand could make a big splash with the AirPods Pro 3 which should be presented in September at the same time as the new iPhones. There is already talk of active noise reduction, heart rate monitoring, and even optimized sound.
Why not get some color back into this market by attracting new customers and all those who already use Apple headphones but want to change.
